Egypt to partially reopen Rafah crossing with Gaza

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Egyptian authorities will reopen the Rafah border crossing on Thursday in one direction to allow the return of stranded Gazans to the coastal enclave, Gaza's interior ministry announced Tuesday.

But the Gaza General Authority for Border Crossings said in a brief statement that it had so far received no information about the reopening of the crossing in both directions.

The ministry's spokesman Iyad al-Bezem, said the reopening of the Rafah border crossing for one day after a two-month closure would not meet the humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people in the Israeli-blockaded territory.

The Ministry called on Egyptian authorities to reopen the crossing in both directions for humanitarian purposes to serve thousands of Gazans.
