Russia claims to hit 86 Daesh targets over 24 hours


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly)Russiahas targeted 86Daeshpositions in Syria over the last 24 hours the Russian Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

"In the last 24 hours Su-34 Su-24M and Su-25SM planes carried out 88 sorties against 86 terrorist infrastructure targets in the provinces of Raqqa Hama Idlib Latakia and Aleppo"theministry said in the statement.

Command centers bases weapons dumps and explosives factories were among the targets hit it added.

The ministry claimed intercepted messages showed commanders in Hama and Homs provinces were suffering a severe lack of ammunition and were considering withdrawing.

Meanwhile Syrian localcivil defense and hospital sources said Tuesday that five civilians were killed in Russian airstrikes targeting the northern town ofDarat Izza 30 kilometers (19 miles) west of Aleppo.

The townis held by “moderate” opposition rebels.

Russiabegan air operations in Syria on Sept. 30. The Kremlin claims the airstrikes are aimed at supporting the forces ofRussia’s ally President Bashar al-Assad against Daesh but NATO has accusedRussiaof targeting all groups opposed to Assad.
