Israel says two 'stray' rockets from Syria hit Golan

Jerusalem:Two rockets fired from Syria hit the Israeli-occupied sector of the Golan Heights on Tuesday Israel's military said the latest of a growing number of missiles to land in the territory.

Since the Syrian conflict erupted in 2011 the Golan has been tense with an increasing number of mostly stray rockets and mortar rounds hitting the Israeli side prompting the occasional armed response.

The army said the rockets which crashed without causing any casualties or damage were likely "stray fire from internal fighting in Syria".

Israel seized 1200 square kilometres (460 square miles) of the plateau in the Six-Day War of 1967 and later annexed it in a move never recognised by the international community.
