Qatar- Eid Charity spends QR222m for Syrian refugees

DOHA: The Sheikh Eid Charitable Association has spent QR222m to support Syrian refugees in Turkey Iraq Jordan and Lebanon. A portion of this money was also spent on people displaced inside Syria. More than seven million Syrians benefitted from the aid.

Some QR102m was spent on foods while shelter and clothing projects cost QR67m. Expenses for medical supplies stood at QR47m. More than QR5m was spent on psychological support for children women and patients.

Some QR165m was spent on displaced people inside Syria and another QR25m on refugees in Jordan. Aid provided to refugees in Lebanon cost QR22m. More than QR5m was spent in Turkey and some QR1m in Iraq.

A team of 2000 people from the Association are working on relief projects in the affected areas including 600 medical staff stationed at first aid points field hospitals and other healthcare facilities said Ali bin Khalid Al Hajri from the Association.

Around 50 relief crew died while carrying out humanitarian services. Team members are putting their lives at risk rescuing the injured and handling patients. Measures have been taken to ensure security for the trucks carrying relief items inside in Syria. Stores are being protected. Then a plan is being made to distribute the aid to needy people said Al Hajari. The continuation of the crisis in Syria has pushed the Association to make long term plan for relief to provide suitable accommodation to displaced Syrians.
