Qatar- GCC Attorneys General Agree to Exchanging Prosecutors


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Their Highnesses and Excellences Public Prosecutors, Attorneys-General and Heads of Public Investigation Bodies in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries held here on Sunday their 9th meeting under the Chairmanship of HE Qatar's Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al-Marri.

HE Dr. Al Marri said in remarks following the meeting that the meeting has concluded after making many decisions and recommendations, most importantly implementing the approval of Their Majesties and Highnesses the leaders of the GCC countries on exchanging prosecutors among the GCC countries, to make possible for a Gulf prosecutor to serve in any of the Member States.

He said that there is a specific mechanism for the work of Gulf prosecutors in any GCC country, under the framework of the Cooperation Council. He also considered the move to be a major achievement, that would not have been possible without their Majesties and Highnesses the GCC leaders approving the recommendation of heads of investigation and prosecution bodies in the Member States.

HE Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al-Marri announced that under the directives of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Award for Excellence for members of the GCC public prosecutions and investigation bodies will be named after Former Kuwaiti Attorney General to become "the Hamid Al Othman Award for Excellence for members of the GCC public prosecutions and investigation bodies".

HH the Emir's directives in this regard is a gracious gesture and a great honor confirms His Highness's special recognition to judiciary people represented in the Attorneys-General, he said.

He added that the Former Kuwaiti General Attorney Hamid Al Othman had a great impact in field of legal work in the gulf, adding that HH the Emir's recognition is not only for Late Hamid Al Othman and his family, but also for all the law workers in the GCC States.

GCC Secretary-General Abdullatif Al-Zayani hailed HH the Emir's directives on naming the award after the Former Kuwaiti Attorney General, explaining that the award was approved by the GCC Ministerial Council on the basis of the recommendation of the Public Prosecutors, Attorneys-General and Heads of Public Investigation Bodies in the GCC countries. It aims at recognizing the outstanding sons of the GCC countries and motivate their colleagues to make more efforts.

The 9th meeting of the Public Prosecutors, Attorneys-General and Heads of Public Investigation Bodies in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries also approved the procedure of extradition between the GCC countries to make more flexible.

HE the Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al-Marri said that cooperation in this field between public prosecutors and bodies of Investigation and Prosecution of the Gulf Cooperation Council already exists, but the 9thmeeting in Doha approved the process of arrest in any Gulf state in a formal setting.

In his key note, HE Dr. Al Marri stressed that close cooperation between the Public Prosecutions means an integrated legal system that provide better services to citizens and residents of the GCC countries.

In his opening speech, GCC Secretary-General Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani said that these meetings are to continue achieving many accomplishments in the field of cooperation between the public prosecutors and investigative bodies in the GCC countries.

The reality which calls for the Gulf cooperation obliges members of the public prosecutors and bodies of Investigation and Prosecution in the GCC to continue the fraternal work down in order to achieve the wishes of the peoples of the region with regard to the integration between the various sectors among the GCC countries, he added.

He pointed out that honoring a number of outstanding members of the Public Prosecutions and the bodies of Investigation and Prosecution and who received the Award of Excellence for the members of Public Prosecutions and the bodies of Investigation and Prosecution of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is an encouragement for their colleagues to make more efforts.
