Ecocity World Summit 2015 kicks off in Abu Dhabi
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Ecocity World Summit (ECWS) kicked off its 11th edition in the UAE capital Sunday with participation of an elite group of experts and specialists representing state and private sectors from different world countries.
The event, considered as the longest-running international conference series on sustainable cities, is held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and it is to last until October 13th.
Local, regional, and international participants are to collaborate, exchange ideas and experiences that will guide the development of ecocities in challenging environments.
The Ecocity began with a constructive idea fueled by a serious desire for development and innovation, UAE Minister of State Reem Al-Hashimy said in her speech during the opening ceremony.
Ecocities are not different than other regular cities, Al-Hashimy, who is also Director General of EXPO 2020 Dubai Bureau, said, adding that Ecocities are basically based on ideas and creatives that provide unique privileges and healthy living for its residents.
She also stressed the importance of modern technologies, creative measures, knowledge exchange, quick solutions, and innovations as main factors in the construction of Ecocities, pointing out their efficiencies in leading the society towards a new stage in the architectural design.
The three-day event will discuss topics such as Building in Hot and Arid Climates: Challenges and Innovation, Eco citizen and the Green Economy, Biomimicry in Architecture and Urban Design, the Local Vision: Leadership Panel, Education for Tomorrow's Ecocitizens, Living Buildings, and Structures and Materials, in addition to other key environmental sustainability topics.
The ECWS provides an open, inclusive and modest platform for experts and visionaries at the cutting-edge of sustainable urbanism to collaborate via a dynamic program of plenary sessions, workshops, case study presentations, panel discussions, debates, and academic panels.
It is organized by the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD) and supported by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the Urban Planning Council (UPC) and Masdar, and is facilitated by Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative (AGEDI) with Abu Dhabi Tourism and Cultural Authority (TCA) as the destination host.
