Doha prepares to host world's top swimmers

DOHA: One of the most highly anticipated sports events of the year the FINA World Cup returns to Doha this year and with tickets going on sale yesterday the countdown is well and truly on.

Hamad Aquatic Centre is set to come alive once again from November 2-3 as the world’s fastest and most competitive swimmers take to the water to battle for World Cup glory.

Tickets can be purchased at leading ticket retailer Virgin Mega stores in Qatar and online. Ticket sare priced at QR10 per ticket or session.

As a qualifying event for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games fans can expect even more explosive action in the pool next month and World Champions World Record holders and Olympians look to secure their place at next summer’s Games.

This year’s FINA airweave Swimming World Cup is already proving to be a must-see event with more than 44 countries and 322 swimmers having registered their interest to compete in Doha – more than ever at a World Cup event in Doha.

The two days of thrilling competition will kick off with morning heats starting at 10:00am and finals from 6:00pm.

Doors open at 8:30am each morning of the event allowing fans to settle in before the fast pace races get under way.

Khaleel Al Jabir President of Qatar Swimming Association (QSA) and Chairman of the Local Organising Committee said yesterday: “We had a record-breaking 2014 season of swimming in Qatar and we are looking forward to having the world’s best return to Doha this November at Hamad Aquatic Centre.”

He added: “The FINA airweave Swimming World Cup 2015 is a must-attend event for the community of Qatar. We encourage families and swimming enthusiasts alike to witness the world’s best compete in an event which is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

Fans will be hoping to catch notable swimmers like three-time Olympian Katinka Hosszu Great Britain’s double World Record holder Adam Peaty and South Africa’s golden boy Chad Le Clos again this year in Doha.
