Alleged Brotherhood member killed in Alexandria

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) The interior ministry announced Sunday that a leading member of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group, Moustafa Gomaa, was killed while being pursued by security forces who stormed into his private residence in Alexandria.

The ministry said in a statement that the Homeland Security Apparatus gathered information about Gomaa, and found that he participated in "operations against police officers and soldiers" in Fayoum. It added that he was involved in acts of violence since 2013, including the storming of the Sanoras police station, an attack on a security checkpoint, as well as the planting of explosives in various areas.

Fayoum's Sanoras police station has been attacked several times by unknown assailants. The city of Fayoum witnesses many clashes, arrests, and violent incidents between Islamists and police forces.

The statement said that Gomaa attempted to flee the officers who arrived to arrest him by jumping from his window. However, he sustained fatal injuries that led to his death.

A spokesperson from the Muslim Brotherhood group wasn't available for comment by the time of print.
