"5+5 Defense Initiative"Meeting Begins in Tunisia


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) The 7th meeting of chiefs of staff of the marines of the member countries of the "5 +5 Defense Initiative" began here Wednesday.

The two-day meeting focused on the current threats and risks faced by the countries of the initiative relating to terrorism, illegal immigration and cross-border crime, Brig. Gen. Ismail Fathalli, Chief of Staff of the Tunisian Army said.

He added that the meeting aims to upgrade military and operational capabilities to counter these new challenges, pointing out that the participants will discuss all ideas and visions in order to reach an action plan and unified strategy that will be carried out to ward off these risks.

The "5+5" initiative groups consist of 10 countries from the west Mediterranean which include Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Tunisia, Spain, France, Italy, Malta and Portugal.
