UAE- The heart of design

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) There's never been a more exciting time for Dubai's creative minds and design enthusiasts. Dubai Design Week will be taking place across the city from October 26 - 31, launching another one of many creative initiatives to establish Dubai as a truly progressive city.

Held in partnership with Dubai Design District (d3) and supported by the Dubai Design & fashion Council and the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), Dubai Design Week will reflect the major talent of local and regional based designers. The event will help designers to connect and interact with the city and public directly through a number of programmes and initiatives. This also means that many members of the public will get a taste of some of the truly innovative works that are being produced right under our noses.

Speaking from the new heart of Design in Dubai, d3, Mohammad Saeed Al Shehhi, COO of Dubai Design District, was passionate about the potential the event will have, not only for designers involved, but for the public and the future of the design industry in Dubai.

"Our sponsorship, our initiative to host Dubai Design Week shows our commitment to the industry. It's about showcasing your designs, and your creative work to the people, not only in the UAE but in the region."

As partner to Dubai Design Week, d3 acts a host inviting the public to the free event to experience the best design work Dubai has to offer.

Also announced yesterday was Dubai Design Week's diverse line up of programmes, events and installations planned for the public to interact with. These included ABWAB, an emerging platform that will showcase talent from the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, and an exhibition focusing on another historically progressive city, ICONIC CITY: BRILLIANT BEIRUT, which will showcase the impact of urbanism in the areas of design and creative culture. Stores, studios, universities and galleries all over the city from JBR to 1971 in Sharjah will be hosting exhibitions and workshops in AROUND THE CITY. Dubai's cityscape will also be slightly transformed with 12 site-specific sculptural works set up to architecturally entice us. The most exciting programme would have to be The Global Grad Show. This particular exhibition will bring together graduate shows from 10 top universities around the world in one space, giving us a glimpse of what ideas other innovative, young designers are dealing with around the globe.

"That will be a great opportunity for the universities here, for the students here, for the people here to come and see the most creative students and the most creative work in the world demonstrated and showcased in Dubai Design District," Mohammad added.

Other than bringing much of the region's design talent to public and international eyes, Dubai Design Week will help cement the city as a global and creative hub, inviting an international audience to sit up and pay attention.
