Saudi- Avoiding the clash
(MENAFN- Arab News)This refers to the article by Abdulrahman Al-Rashed 'Avoiding clash between Saudi Arabia and Iran' (Oct. 5)
I think Saudi Arabia's policy to have strategic co-operation with Russia can play a vital role in reducing the level of tension in the region as Russia is a partner with Iran on issue relating to Syria. I always consider dialogue as the best means to understand each other as also to iron out differences to a great extent.
Hence it will be beneficial if the two countries sit and discuss not just Yemen and Syria but the region in general but without any outside influence. This may provide a long-term solution to the crisis. This will also save them from playing into the hands of outside forces.
There is no denying the fact that it will never be an easy task to talk to a country that has agendas not in the good health of the region.Yet a sustained dialogue will make us understand which way the Iranian wind is blowing.
It is in this respect that I welcomed the writer's comments that the surge in tension calls for improving means of communication not the opposite. The reasons and motives behind this tension must be understood. So despite the tension both sides must see to it that the tense situation must not get out of control. Sajid By email
