U 19: Unbeaten Qatar finish on top cruise into AFC finals in Bahrain

Doha: Hosts Qatar finished with an all-win record in Group D of the 2016 AFC U-19 Championship to qualify for the finals of the AFC Under-19 championship in Bahrain

Al Anabi which won the Asian Under-19 title yesterday defeated Oman 2-1 to top the group.

The four-team group the hosts had earlier defeated Lebanon 4-0 and Kyrgyzstan 7-1.

A total of 16 teams will qualify for the final round to be held in Bahrain with the top four sides there making it to the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea.

A total of 43 member associations including finals hosts Bahrain and reigning champions Qatar were competing in the qualifiers and they were divided into two zones – the West Zone which has 25 teams and the East Zone with 18 teams.

Ten group winners and five best second-placed teams will qualify for the finals while hosts Bahrain received an automatic qualification.

In Dhaka Uzbekistan powered their way to the AFC U-19 finals when a 4-0 victory over host nation Bangladesh saw them finish top of Group A.

Meanwhile Iraq advanced to the 2016 AFC U-19 Championship after defeating Bahrain 4-1 in their last Group F qualifying match at the Republican Central Stadium yesterday.

In the group’s later game Tajikistan whipped the Maldives 8-0 to go second in the group with the Bahrainis who finished third automatically qualified for the tournament proper as the hosts.

In Yangon Vietnam advanced to the finals of the AFC U-19 Championship Bahrain 2016 after beating Myanmar 1-0 in their Group G qualifier yesterday.

Ha Duc Chinh who clinched a double in Vietnam’s 3-1 win over Hong Kong in their campaign opener proved pivotal as he scored the lone goal on 19 minutes to place Hoang Anh Tuan’s side top of the group with a perfect record of four wins.
