As many as 130 schools have been participating in a mentoring programme initiated by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) in the emirate.

The "After School Support Programme" for students for the 2015/2016 academic school year is being organised to raise the overall quality of education across public schools .

Mohammed Al Dhaheri Executive Director of Adec's School Operations Division explained that the council is trying to elevate the level of education on par with international standards and in line with Adec's mission.

"Adec has confidence in its students which is why we are offering extra mentoring to those who require further assistance from some of the most qualified teachers in our schools. On the other hand the council realises that there are students of high calibre who require advanced teaching skills and special attention. We have created the After School Programme for that reason which happens to coincide with our eagerness to enhance Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics skills among all pupils" said Al Dhaheri.

The programme targets Cycle 2 and Cycle 3 (Grades 8 to 12) school students as well as Grades 11 and 12 high achieving students. Top performing teachers with an evaluation score higher than 91 have been selected to teach the students. - Wam
