UAE envoy attends summit for Shopping Tourism and Economy in Madrid

MADRID 6th October 2015 (WAM)The UAE Ambassador to Spain Dr. Hessa Abdullah Al Otaiba attended the opening of the Shopping Tourism and Economy Summit 2015 held in Madrid today in the presence of senior officials from the Spanish government Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organisation Taleb Rifai heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Spain and representatives of tourism sectors.

Ambassador Al Otaiba took part in a panel for ambassadors along with the ambassadors of Italy and Russia. In her speech the ambassador highlighted the remarkable progress in the UAE's relations with Spain which is the third top destination for Emirati tourists after Turkey and the United Kingdom. The UAE in turn has become one of the favourite destinations for Spanish tourists.

She added that the increase in tourism between the two countries resulted in more flights by major UAE carriers like Emirates and Etihad Airways.

Dr. Al Otaiba underlined the importance of language in facilitating tourism and emphasised the need to respect Emirati traditions especially those related to Emirati women at the airports and borders check points. She also stressed the importance of providing proper and accurate information such as restaurants serving Halal meals as well as prayer timings to the UAE tourists coming to Spain.
