AFC changes Iranian referee for Al Ahli Al Hilal semis clash
(MENAFN- Arab News)JEDDAH: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has replaced Iranian referee Alireza Faghani with Bahraini's Nawaf Shukralla for the match between United Arab Emirates' Al-Ahli and Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal for the second leg semifinal match of the AFC Champions League match after the Saudi officials asked for a change.
Ahli and Hilal are schedule to face off in Dubai on Oct. 20. Two teams drew 1-1 in their first leg semifinal at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh.
'This substitution was good for me because it would have caused problem for me' Faghani told reporters.
Faghani is a famous Iranian referee who has been on the international list since 2008. He was named as the fourth referee for the opening match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup between Brazil and Croatia.
He also officiated the 2014 AFC Champions League final first leg match between Al-Hilal and Western Sydney Wanderers.
Faghani also refereed the 2015 AFC Asian Cup final between Australia and South Korea.
