Suicide or murder 2 die in Dubai flat fire

A man and a woman - both Asians in their early 20s - died as a fire gutted their flat in Dubai's Al Hamriya area. The police refused to divulge any details about the deceased.

The police initially suspected a suicide pact but later said there was a "criminal motive" in the case. A source said foul play was established after forensic evidence was collected from the site and examined. Mahmood Hamed a spokesperson of the Dubai Civil Defence said the fire was reported from a five-storey residential building on Sunday at 3.50pm. Fire brigades rushed to the site and battled the blaze that was on in the bedroom of the 2nd-storey flat.

Firefighters evacuated the building and brought the fire under control before it could spread to neighbouring flats.

Hamed said the site was handed over to the police after the cooling operation. The police found the charred bodies in the bedroom. -

The families of the deceased have been informed the police said.
