Turkish warplanes intercept Russian jet fighter in Turkish skies

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A couple of Turkish jet fighters have recently scrambled into action intercepting a Russian warplane breaching the Turkish airspace, the Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement that a Russian jet fighter violated the national airspace over the city of Hatay on October 3rd. A pair of Turkish fighter jets scrambled into action, intercepting the Russian aircraft forcing it to change course and fly out of the national airspace in the direction of Syria.
The Russian ambassador to Turkish had been summoned by the ministry, which lodged a strongly-worded complaint with the diplomat, the official statement said, noting that the Turkish officials notified him that such actions must not recur in the future.
Turkish has warned Moscow that it will bear consequences of such "undesirable acts." Russia has stepped up air attacks on militants' strongholds in Syria but Ankara has criticized the Russian involvement in the neighboring, troubled nation.
