Egypt to celebrate 42nd anniversary of Oct. 6 war

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Egypt is set to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the October 6, 1973 victory over Israel on Tuesday, a war that has ended the legacy of the so-called "invincible" Israeli Army.
The anniversary brings to mind the unity of Arab forces at that time, including the Kuwaiti Army that stood side by side with Egypt to win the Arab-Israeli war. Another element that played a role in the victory then was the use of Arab oil exports as a weapon of war.
During the 1973 war, Egyptian forces were able to infiltrate the Bar Lev Line, set by Israel along the eastern coast of the Suez Canal to prevent any Egyptian assault on its occupied territories. The line was established after the Arabs were defeated in the 1967 war against Israel.
The 1973 war was of great importance in building and developing the skills and power of the Egyptian army, military expert and former 73 war officer Major General Talat Muslim told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
Meanwhile, he noted that Egypt has formed a specialized military committee that took years to thoroughly plan the Bar Lev infiltration operation.
The line was destroyed as the forces entered and took over its key locations to launch attacks on the Israeli side from Sinai, he added. Moreover, Muslim praised the role of Arab coalition forces and the Soviet Union then, in achieving victory over Israel.
