Saudi MoH in Kuwait for WHO RC meeting


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Saudi Minister of Health Eng. Khaled bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih on Sunday evening commended Kuwait for hosting the 62nd session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean.
The WHO RC, the decision-making body of the Organization in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, represents the 22 Member States of the Region and the occupied Palestinian territories; its meeting will be held on October 5-8 under auspices of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
Speaking to reporters, the Saudi Minister said his country is keen on active participation in such annual ministerial meeting of the Organization.
Al-Falih noted that the meeting will gather WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan and WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Dr. Ala Alwan.
"The Saudi Ministry of Health plans to contribute to the technical debates of the RC and the priority issues on the agenda with a view to upgrading the health systems on the national, regional and international levels," he said.
"The Kingdom is committed to the decisions and recommendations of the Organization out of keenness on combating the non-communicable diseases such as heart diseases, hypertension and diabetes," the minister added.
The technical issues on the agenda of the four-day RC meeting this year include; the global health security, with special emphasis on MERS-Cov and H5N1; the sustainable development goals in the post-2015 development agenda; a review of medical education; scaling up mental healthcare; assessing and monitoring the implementation of the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005; the global vaccine action plan; and prevention and control of viral hepatitis.
