Riyadh roadworks cause congestion
(MENAFN- Arab News)RIYADH: Although Riyadh Metro is primarily responsible for causing congestion on streets in the capital a number of other work related to infrastructure have added to the discomfiture of citizens who describe the situation as a "daily nightmare".
This has led to a serious contention between the municipality and citizens as people have been unable to access their homes due to trenches. Abdulaziz Al-Mutairi a citizen of the Ishbelia neighborhood said that the area has become hostage to excavations with long and deep trenches dug alongside the street that has hundreds of houses.
Numerous streets in the capital have been completely blocked with cement barriers while trenches are dug all along the street.
As a result homes and doors are now surrounded by construction which prevents vehicles from stopping on the street.
This has forced some inhabitants to park their vehicles on neighboring streets and walk long distances to their apartment blocks after crossing footbridges precariously placed over deep trenches.
Khalid Al-Yami another resident said these excavations are taking months to be completed causing immense hardship to citizens.
With the schools reopening Sunday and more vehicles on the street the confusion was even greater.
