UN Chief Calls for Impartial Investigation into Afghan Hospital Attack


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) UN Secretary-General Ban Ki moon called on Saturday for a thorough and impartial investigation into the attack on a hospital in Kunduz, a city in northern Afghanistan, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of medical personnel, patients and other civilians.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ban strongly condemned the airstrikes in Kunduz that resulted in the death and injury of medical workers and patients at a the hospital on Saturday.

In this context, the US military acknowledged it did carry out an airstrike around the time the hospital was hit. A spokesman for US forces in Afghanistan said "the strike may have resulted in collateral damage to a nearby medical facility." There has been intense fighting in Kunduz since Taliban fighters swept into the northern city on Monday.
