Galileo Gold to lead Qatar's charge


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Al Shaqab Racing's Galileo Gold will lead Qatar's charge in the 11-horse Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere, a Group 1 1600m race for two-year-olds, at the Longchamp Racecourse here today.
Hugo Palmer's charge, winner of the Group 2 Qatar Vintage Stakes this summer at Goodwood, will be up against an impressive Ultra, from the Godolphin stables. The Andre Fabre-trained colt has been unbeaten in two runs and will be a serious rival.
In Total Prix Marcel Boussac, a Group 1 race for two-year-old fillies, Antonoe, who impressed with her win in the Group 3 Prix d'Aumale, is the favourite. However, Al Shaqab Racing's Qemah, who won a B race at Longchamp, and Qatar Racing's Katie's Diamond, who won a listed race at Newmarket, will try and get a win for Qatar.
Prix de l'Opéra Longines is expected to turn out to be a thriller of a race. Last year's winner We Are will be looking to make a double in the Group 1 2000m race.
Freddy Head, a champion trainer and jockey in his own right, and also the brother of Treve trainer Criquette Head-Maarek, will also be fielding Queen's Jewel along with We Are.
Winner of the classic Chantilly race, Prix de Diane Longines, Star of Seville could have a say in the final results and so could Cladocera, who came close to a victory in the Group 1 Matron Stakes, will be looking for her first win at this level.
Al Shaqab Racing's Gutaifan maybe the youngest of the lot in the Qatar Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp. He, however, showed his capabilities at Doncaster and Deauville recently, when he won a Group 2 and finished second behind Shalaa in the Darley Prix Morny respectively.
Move In Time will have to watch out for some really tough competition in the 1000m sprint with 19 horses in the fray, including Qatar Racing's Pearl Secret.
With last year's runner-up Gordon Lord Byron in the fray, Al Shaqab Racing's Amy Eria will look to follow up her success in the Goodwood Oak Tree Stakes with a win in the Qatar Prix de la Foret. However, making her task that much more harder will be Make Believe and Godolphin's Toormore.
Alex My Boy is the favourite for this year's Qatar Prix du Cadran, a 4000m Group 1 race four-year-olds plus.
Last year's runner-up Bathyrhon will try to do go one better, while Willie Mullins has two horses in the race, including Simenon, a proven horse at this level.
François Rohaut has decided to run Iltemas of Al Shaqab Racing. The filly has never run such a long distance, but would has a listed win at the Prix des Tourelles over 2,400m.
