Jordan- PM, Romanian counterpart hold talks on ties, Mideast issues


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, on Saturday, held talks with Romanian Prime Minister, Victor Ponta, on ways to cement ties between Jordan and Romania in various domains and a number of Middle East issues.

Ensour said the two-way trade exchange is still below aspirations and called for closer economic cooperation in a host of areas.

The prime minister also spoke about the Syrian refugees' crisis and called for additional European support to Jordan. They talks tackled Syria, the Palestinian issues and developments in Libya, Iraq and Yemen.

The Romanian prime minister said he was happy to visit Jordan and commended Jordan as a safe haven for those displaced by wars in their countries. He added that his country is keen to have a more robust role in Middle Eastern issues.

Ponta said the European Union and the international community are required to extend further assistance to Jordan to help it handle a major Syrian refuges crisis.

Ponta said his country's minister of economy will come back to Jordan in less than a month to explore ways to cement economic ties in various domains, especially in information and communications technology.

A number of memoranda of understanding in areas of agriculture, industry and ICT were signed during the meeting in a bid to strike closer relationship between Jordan and the European nation.
