Famous for playing host to many world-class sporting events Dubai is now all set to enter the Guinness Book of World Records by hosting a 24-hour tennis tournament.

The event has been named as 24-Hour Tennis Marathon. Different corporate teams from the country will be taking part in it.

No tennis event has ever taken place for 24 hours at a stretch in the history of the sport. "The event will be held on November 13 and November 14 at the Grand Hyatt tennis courts. People from the Guinness Book of World Records will be present in the event. If they are satisfied with the way we organise this 24-hour tournament they will be give us the certificates. And we are confident that our tournament will add a new chapter in their record books" Vipin Sharma managing director of Veracity World and co-owner of the tournament told reporters at a Press conference on Wednesday.

The icing on the cake for the participating players will be the presence of 2013 Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli.

"Dubai has already become famous in the world as a top sporting destination. Now our aim is to take tennis to a different level in this city" Sharma added.

"The event not only comes as a platform for local players to showcase their tennis skills but would also act as an ideal family outing. This event would be an annual affair starting this year and we are hopeful that the event will help encourage the local talent and also attract more people to take up the sport."

Strath Sherriff managing director of Sherriff International Sports Management who has been conducting tennis clinics in the UAE Australia USA and France for several years now said: "Dubai has already made its mark as an important destination in the annual ATP and WTA calendar with the annual ATP and WTA event in Dubai attracting most of the top 10 ranked players. Our attempt at the 24 Hour Marathon would further elevate Dubai and UAE's position as the tennis hub in the region."

Dubai Sports Council has backed the unique tennis event.
