Jordan- FM, German counterpart chair meeting on human rights


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Nasser Judeh, and his German counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, on Wednesday, chaired a joint meeting on human rights, peace and security and the role of the UN Security Council in the regard.

Judeh said the council worked in the past few years on human rights issues and made progress in this context but more needs to be done. He asserted that the council shoulders major responsibility to stop massacres and gross breaches of human rights.

Judeh, who is also deputy prime minister, made it clear that the UNSC has failed to address Israeli attacks against Palestinian people in occupied Palestinian land, including East Jerusalem. He said the international community has also failed to hold Israel accountable for its violations and crimes against the Palestinian people.

The minister called for reforming the UN Security Council to achieve the required impact on human rights issues in conflicts and beyond conflicts. He aired Jordan's support of a French initiative to reform the council.
