FM chairs Syria meet in New York

New York: Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah yesterday chaired a ministerial meeting of the GCC countries and the European Union on the sidelines of the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

It dealt with ways of enhancing cooperation between the GCC and the EU.

Dr Al Attiyah also chaired a ministerial meeting of the GCC and Australia with Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and discussed ways of enhancing cooperation.

Separately Dr Al Attiyah took part in a meeting on Syria. It followed a call by US Secretary of State John Kerry and was attended by many countries concerned with the Syrian crisis.

Dr Al Attiyah also attended a meeting to discuss the refugee crisis in Europe.

The meeting followed a call by German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Germany currently chairs the G7 Group of industrialised nations.

Dr Al Attiyah also met Gabon Foreign Minister Emmanuel Issoze-Ngondet and discussed ways of enhancing relations and issues of common interest.
