DOHA: Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) is participating in IFTM (International French Travel Market) Top Resa 2015 France’s premier travel industry event which opened in Paris on Tuesday.

QTA is showcasing Qatar’s increasingly diverse offering through a 100sqm exhibition stand that highlights the country’s leisure and recreational facilities.

Based on research showing high interest from French travellers in Oman QTA plans to promote joint Qatar-Oman visa.

Rashed Al Qurese Chief Marketing and Promotions Officer QTA said “The eight percent increase in French visitors to Qatar in the first half of 2015 reflects the success of our initiatives promoting interest in the destination among the French travel trade and the general public.

“France is Qatar’s second largest market in Europe and we welcomed nearly 43000 visitors last year. We believe there is greater potential for further growth in the future” he said.

According to him awareness of Qatar as a destination has been growing thanks to expanding aviation links through Qatar Airways and QTA’s partnership with Paris Saint-Germain.

Qatar has also had a presence in several high-profile French events including Chantilly Arts & Elegance and Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Since establishing its Paris representative office in 2013 QTA has developed relations with the travel trade in France and there are some 20 French tour operators featuring Qatar.

In addition over 500 French travel agents have signed up for QTA’s ‘Tawash’ online destination training course and 189 of them have graduated to become qualified Qatar tourism experts.

Tawash aims to develop a powerful and enthusiastic network of knowledgeable partners promoting and selling Qatar’s tourist attractions directly to their markets.

“IFTM Top Resa provides Qatar with an important platform for further expanding the highly successful online destination training programme for travel agents and other tourism professionals in the French market” Al Qurese said.

He said visitors to the QTA stand will have the opportunity to sign up for ‘Tawash’ and meet some of the graduates.
