Qatar Stresses Importance of Education in Development Agenda


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Permanent delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations and in partnership with Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO and the Foundation secure world, "Safe World" organized a high-level meeting on "Priority to Education in Peaceful Societies ", on the sidelines of the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development.

The high-level meeting was opened by HE Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al -Thani. The meeting focused on the need to deal with education issues as a priority in all the circumstances of emergency and other essential goal for the implementation of the development plan of the post-2015 as well as the importance of identifying the role of youth in their implementation.

The meeting also highlighted the findings of the Global Youth Consultation for the United Nation's World Humanitarian Summit (WHS) which took place in Doha from 1st to 2nd September 2015 in preparation for the World Summit for humanitarian action, which will be held in Istanbul, Turkey in 2016.

It also discussed the role of Arab and African youth in supporting and promoting the sustainable development goals, especially goals 4 and 16 and possessing the leading role in the implementation of those goals.

Speaking at the meeting, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said that Qatar considers education as an important matter of the development agenda, and an essential element in building a world of peace and prosperity.

He expressed Qatar's concern for the millions of children out of school, pointing out that the 50% proportion of them live in areas of conflict. He called on the international community to enable young people to play a more active role in the Development Agenda.
