Turkish Acting PM blames PKK for violating peace process

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Turkish Acting Prime Minister Yalcin Akdogan on Monday blamed the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) for violating and exploiting the fragile peace process aimed at ending the long-standing armed conflict between PKK insurgents and the Turkish government.
In a statement, Akdogan said, "Some people are still calling on government adherence to a peace process. The ongoing military operations against the PKK are not recreational by any stretch; instead the operations are aimed at decimating PKK bases." The PKK has become vulnerable due to the ongoing onslaught by government forces, Akdogan added.
"Three of our soldiers were martyred during Eid Al-Adha, which goes to show that this ruthless organization does not even recognize this holy festival," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
The PKK, branded as a terrorist group by the United States, Turkey and the European Union (EU) has waged an armed campaign for greater autonomy since 1984, but peace talks that commenced in 2013 have failed to bring an end to decades of bloodshed.
