UAE regrets plan to delete item on rights agenda


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)Delivering the UAE's address before the Human Rights Council's general debate on the human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories Obaid Salem Al Zaabi UAE Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) and Other International Organisations in Geneva said the UAE has added its voice to the Arab group in regretting that some countries had decided to boycott item seven of the Council's agenda.

"Item seven dealt with systematic human rights violations in the region and did not single out any country" he explained.

Al Zaabi demanded to know how item seven can be deleted from the council's agenda in the wake of the UN General Assembly's adoption of the post-2015 sustainable development agenda which says in 35 items.

The UAE he said recalled that the UN had recognised the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and said this item would continue to be relevant until Palestine had a State with East Jerusalem as its capital. - Wam
