Qatar Stresses That Resources of Occupied Land Belongs to its People


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) The State of Qatar stressed in a statement released on Friday on the sovereignty of people over their resources in areas under occupation from foreign countries. Particularly the rights of Palestinian and Syrian people of Golan Heights over their resources.

The statement released by Qatar during the 39th meeting of foreign ministers belonging to member countries of the Group of 77 and China. The statement, read by HE Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al-Thani, called on Israel to end its use of resources in the occupied territories.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 70th UN General Assembly. On the Assembly, HE the Assistant Foreign Minister discussed "Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" and said it was an ambitious plan that must realize the different capabilities of countries. The plan must also respect the sovereignty of each country.

His Excellency added that the commitment to human rights means that the international community has to focus on eliminating poverty and achieving sustainable development.

HE the Assistant Foreign Minister said that the international community must focus on financing development. His Excellency added that the Addis Ababa Action Agenda signed during Third International Conference on Financing for Development would be a valuable addition to the global efforts.

Achieving sustainable development also means that the international community must face environmental issues such as desertification and climate change, His Excellency said. He highlighted Qatar's hosting the 2012 UN Climate Change Conference as part of the country's effort to face these issues.
