HE Assistant FM: Qatar Keen on Promoting Women Rights


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Qatar is very keen on empowering women to practice their rights and ensuring this through the constitution, legislations, and international agreements and conventions as they comprise an indispensable factor in achieving comprehensive sustainable development, HE Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani said.

HE the assistant foreign minister was addressing the second interactive dialogue on tackling inequalities, empowering women and girls and leaving no one behind, which was held on the sidelines of the U.N. summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman said Qatar has adopted a proactive and preventive policy in order to protect human rights in general, and women's human rights in particular, which was indicative in the drafting of Qatar National Vision 2030, one of whose pillars refers to the promotion of women's capacities and enabling them of economic and political participation.

He stressed that goals of the post-2015 development plan can't be achieved without recognizing the valuable contributions of women and girls, and paying due attention to their issues in the context of this plan and actually involving them in its implementation.

"We can't overcome challenges facing communities without placing women in national priorities, achieving equal opportunities and tackling inequalities, especially for women living in unacceptable conditions of poverty and marginalization," HE the assistant foreign minister said.

He added that sustainable and fair growth requires eradicating all kinds of poverty, ensuring the right to good, fair and comprehensive education and empowering all sectors of society, including women and girls, to participate.
