(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appreciated Egypt's leadership role in the Middle East peace process and underlined the need for rapid action in this area, both by advancing towards a Palestinian-Israeli peace agreement and reconciliation among the Palestinians.
During a meeting held today between the UN Chief and Egyptian President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi, where Ban expressed concern over the situation in Libya, counting on Egypt's support for UN efforts to get an agreement there and to support the future Government of National Accord.
Furthermore, Ban praised the decision of President Al-Sisi to pardon 100 prisoners, including the Al-Jazeera journalists, and also called him to "exercise leadership in protecting human rights and human dignity in Egypt and in the region".
