UAE- 'My family and I are happy with the debt free life'

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)He has been behind the wheels of several cars including super cars. He is also a saviour of thousands of people stranded on the UAE roads.

Indian national Abdul Jabbar should not be mistaken as a super hero on the street though his mundane job often turns out to be an unforgettable rescue for many. He is a driver of a recovery van with a company offering road-side assistance to broken-down vehicles.

Jabbar calls his van "an ambulance for sick vehicles" and attends to six or seven vehicles every day. He has been plying on the UAE roads for eight years. Without a GPS service he is well-versed with street names and locations across the length and breadth of the country.

Jabbar says he admires the UAE and its government for all the good work that they are doing and for absorbing people of so many different nationalities and cultures.

"This country has changed my life also. It is after coming here that I could clear all my debts back home that had piled up after the weddings of my three sisters."

He is also thankful to AAA his company which gave him a second chance to work with them when he took a break after five years.

Jabbar's work is from 8am to 8pm. He can be asked to assist customers stuck on the road in any of the emirates.

"We know the difficulties of people waiting on the road. I try to reach them as fast as possible especially during summer."

He helps with changing a flat tyre jump-starting a dead battery and supplying fuel for vehicles that have run out of petrol or diesel. He knows a little bit of mechanical work as well. When all that doesn't help Jabbar tows the car to a garage or tyre shop.

Most customers let him drive their cars on to the tilted van and to take them down to the garages. In that sense he has driven plenty of car models - from Ferrari and Lamborghini to the normal saloon and hatchback cars.

Driving his own car has never been his wish he says.

"With a salary of just Dh3000 I cannot afford to dream that big. My family and I are happy with the debt-free life and I have only two big wishes to fulfill soon - to bring my wife and three kids here once to show this wonderful country and to build our own home back in India" said Jabbar before rushing to rescue another stranded customer.
