German photographer Lindbergh to get first retrospective

(MENAFN- AFP) The Dutch city of Rotterdam will next year host the first ever major retrospective of the work of top German fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh, officials have announced.

Some 250 photographs taken by Lindbergh will go on display at the Kunsthal museum in the port city in an exhibition called "A Different History of Fashion."

Tracing some three decades of his work, the collection has been assembled after the curator, Thierry-Maxime Loriot, was given exclusive access to Lindbergh's personal archives.

Fashion greats such as Azzedine Alaia, Jean Paul Gaultier and Giorgio Armani have worked with Lindbergh over the years, and the exhibition will include comments by some of the world's leading designers.

Opening in September 2016, the exhibition will "present the most iconic images of Lindbergh through 25 renowned fashion designers from different eras," the museum said in a statement.

It will trace the arc of contemporary fashion "bringing together works that have influenced a generation of designers, photographers and artists."

Following its opening in Rotterdam, the exhibition will go on a world tour in 2017.

Lindbergh, known for his black-and-white images, has collaborated with many leading fashion magazines such as Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, and has also photographed iconic models such as Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford.

Much of the material to be included in the exhibition has never been seen before in public, the Kunsthal said.
