Palestinian woman shot in alleged stabbing attempt

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Israeli soldiers on Tuesday shot and injured a Palestinian woman near a military checkpoint in the West Bank city of Hebron.

According to a spokesperson for the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) the woman – who has since been taken to hospital – was shot while attempting to stab an Israeli soldier.

The incident followed the death of a Palestinian man on Monday night who the IDF said had been killed when an explosive device he had intended to throw detonated prematurely.

“Around midnight the IDF received civilian reports regarding a road that had been blocked by rocks. When IDF forces arrived [at the scene] they heard an explosion” the IDF spokesperson said.

“They conducted a search and found the body” he added.

The IDF denied that any clashes had preceded the incident which took place in Khursa southwest of Hebron.

Palestine’s Ma'an news agency for its part quoted local officials as saying that Israeli troops had shot the 21-year-old dead.

Tension has been running high in the West Bank and Jerusalem in the past week with a number of clashes erupting after groups of Jewish settlers forced their way into Muslim holy sites including East Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque complex.
