Qatar- 2nd Conference on Challenges to Security, Human Rights in the Arab Region to be Held in Tunis

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Qatar National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) will organize, in collaboration with the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, the second conference on the challenges to security and human rights in the Arab region in Tunis.

The second conference, to be held next November, is an implementation of the recommendations of the first conference organized by the Committee in Doha last November. The first conference was co-organized by the League of Arab States, the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Qatar-based Arab Network of National Institutions for Human Rights.

NHRC Chairman Dr Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri, during a meeting in Doha with Secretary General of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers Dr Mohammed bin Ali Koman, said that the second international conference on the challenges to security and human rights in the Arab region was an implementation of the recommendations of the first conference held in Doha which were highly appreciated at the regional and international levels from both governments and civil society organizations.

Al Marri said that the importance of the first conference and its success necessitated that appropriate and effective mechanisms be developed to implement its recommendations on the ground, stressing that terrorism is the most flagrant violation of human rights and the lives of people, pointing out that combating it must be based on approaches, legislation and mechanisms consistent with the standards of human rights to safeguard the rights of individuals and societies.
