Jordan- Fallen police officers laid to rest


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Two police officers who were killed in separate incidents over the past couple of days were laid to rest in their hometowns of Irbid and Balqa in solemn military funerals on Monday.

Khaled Bani Mufrej, a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Warrant Officer, was shot dead while on duty in a central Amman area by an unknown man late Sunday.

A police statement said a CID patrol tried to stop a man in Jabal Amman but when the patrol approached the man, he opened fire from a weapon he had, killing Bani Mufrej and injuring Lit. Hassan al-Awamleh.

Elsewhere, Corp. Muhammad al-Salimeh from the Anti-Narcotics Department, was laid to rest in the northern city of Irbid after he succumbed to wounds he sustained while on duty south of the Kingdom.

Al-Salimeh was shot by two high-profile wanted suspects in the southern town of Al-Rashidyah.

The Public Security Department vowed to bring the criminals, who are still at large, to justice and extended profound sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs.
