(MENAFN) China, Iran's top oil client, saw its August oil imports soar severely as opposed to the previous year, hitting 2.136 million tons of Iranian oil, or 503,110 barrels per day (bpd), based on recent reports.
The registered figures reflect a 61 percent surge from a year ago; however, it was 12.6 percent down from July's 575,700 bpd, based on Thomson Reuters Oil Research & Forecasts' data.
Moreover, the once OPEC's No.2 producer after Saudi Arabia will finally be able to start boosting crude exports, as most sanctions on Iran is about to be ended in exchange for adjustment to its nuclear program.
As far as China is concerned, it brought in nearly 19.2 million tons of Iranian crude oil, or 576,670 bpd for the January-August period, a 0.34 percent decline from the year-earlier period, the customs data showed.
