Kuwait- Tigers Thrash Marina Volts


(MENAFN- Arab Times) Barola delivered a 32-point dazzling performance Friday afternoon as Tigers outshone Marina Volts 88-73 in the KPBA basketball conferences at the Sultan Centre Sports Complex in Hawally.

The Tigers guard was 8 for 13 from the field and added six assists while his team mates ace forward Lorenzo added 16 points and James pulled down 15 rebounds and added 10 points to his side's slate in the clash.

The Tigers took an early 4-point lead in the first quarter, and then pulled away again in the second to finish with a 16-point lead midway into the game. But a Volts rally ignited by Theng early in the third saw the Salmiya side pull within 10 points at the turn of the round.

Basmayor contested a shot, missed, then grabbed an offensive rebound and followed with a second-chance score bringing to bring a boost of energy as Tigers rallied to revive their fortunes.

Barola powered the Tigers to build on their lead on 7-for-8 shooting in the third. He was 4 for 4 from 3-point range in the game totally. He made his first three shots, all from behind the arc during the first 3 minutes.

Barola stole the ball from Theng and converted it into a breakaway layup, then intercepted a pass by James to set up a breakaway layup again by Pamatmat 13 seconds later. That sent the Tigers cruising ahead in the final stretch. Tigers attempted 11 free throws in the third quarter and made 6, but didn't get to the line again until Frio converted one of two with 36 seconds left in the final quarter.

Lorenzo's layup and free throw sent the Tigers surging again 14 points ahead. Barola's 3-pointer with 30 seconds left gave the Tigers a 15-point cushion at the close of the fourth after a 25-14 run that brought the overall score to 88-73. Theng led Volts with a team-high 18 points while James added 11 points in their loss.

In the second game of the series, Prades scored 25 points while Lopes added 15 and 12 rebounds as Boyz Avenue recorded their first victory of the season with a pulsating 76-72 victory over Knights. Dorrado had 14 points and Garcia added 12 in the Knights loss. Knights turned the ball over 23 times leading to 32 Avenue points.

Also in the third and penultimate game of the day, 5R-Brothers won 96-82 against Bisdak in a free flowing game that saw the Brothers rebound from two points down in the opening quarter to take a commanding lead in the second on the efforts of Salameda who finished with a game-high 28 points.

The Sumague-led Bisdak rallied in the third and fourth but could only manage a claw back of some of their deficit, as Ramos partnered with Salameda in their barrages for the Brothers surge ahead to finish the game 14 points ahead, 96-82. Mico added 12 points to the Brothers slate. Danmark and Rustia between the two Bisdak stars scored 31 points to pace their side's loss.

Zyrox outpaced Beachers 60-59 in a low scoring humdrum in the last game of the week end. Ramil had 14 points while Willie scored 11 in the Zyrox win.
