Omantel CEO rues poor TV coverage of Oman sports

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) On a day when Omantel became the first private sector organisation to join hands with the OOC to sign a partnership agreement with the OVA its CEO Sheikh Talal al Mamari expressed concerns over the lack of media support causing confusion among the private sector in the sultanate.

Mamari told Muscat Daily on Sunday 'There is a challenge today in decision-making relating to sponsorship and supporting sports among the private sector. That's because the matter is not clear for the business community.

'There is no sufficient media coverage [of sports] in Oman especially on TV. We know that TV is a strong tool and is a successful medium in providing good returns. But in our market it's not been happening as there is not much TV coverage' he said.

He cited the example of the OPL which he hoped could get better if it gets more TV coverage. 'There is room to make our relationship with the Oman Football Association stronger' said Mamari.

He added 'As part of this partnership agreement Omantel will share its knowledge of marketing with the OVA in order to rope in more sponsors.

'As a corporate organisation we know the importance of marketing. We have been the pioneer in supporting sports in Oman and we aim to use our expertise to seek support for volleyball in all its events. Our deal is for one year but it can be extended up to three years.'
