ABU DHABI 21st September 2015 (WAM) -- Abu Dhabi Farmers Services Centre is working with local breeders and animal traders at the livestock market in Bani Yas to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality meat in time for Eid. The market located next to the Central Abbatoir will be open until the second day of Eid al-Adha and will give an opportunity for local livestock breeders to sell their sheep goats and other animals directly to customers buying Eid sacrifices.

Abu Dhabi Farmers' Services Centre has put in place over 250 pens in Bani Yas. Each pen can hold 10 to 15 sheep or goats making the market currently home to over 3000 animals. The market is seeing around 80 to 100 animals sold per day with that number expected to rise significantly in the lead up to Eid al-Adha.

"In order to support livestock breeders over the Eid period we created a specialised marketing outlet for local animal products which will help to increase the value of local produce and give customers access to a supply of high quality livestock products" said Hamad Isa Al Mazroui Director of Commercial Services Abu Dhabi Farmers' Services Centre.

The business model employed at the market which has been a success for the past five years generates greater income for the farmer than if they were to sell their herd to a wholesaler because selling their livestock directly to the customer at the market means they do not need to pay commissions to a facilitator.

The Bani Yas Market also conforms to strict regulations of animal safety and is under the direct control of the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority.

Pens cost AED 30 per day for ADFSC members and AED 60 per day for non-members. Registrations for pens are open until Tuesday and the market will be open until the second day of Eid al-Adha.
