13 dead Dozens Missing after Migrant Boats Sink in Eastern Aegean


(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Istanbul/Athens Dhu-AlHijjah 6 1436 Sep 20 2015 SPA -- Dozens of migrants were feared dead on Sunday after two boats sank in the waters between Greece and Turkey.
At least 13 people drowned off the coast of western Turkey on Sunday when a migrant boat headed for the Greek island of Lesbos crashed into a cargo vessel and sank dpa quoted the Turkish coast guard as saying.
Four children were among the dead the DHA news agency reported.
Twenty people from the boat were saved.
Another migrant boat off the coast of Lesbos in the Aegean Sea also sank leaving 26 people missing. The Greek coast guard was able to save 20 of those on board the sinking vessel.
The Aegean Sea lies along one of the routes used by migrants to travel from Turkey to EU member state Greece. Official figures estimate that more than 300000 migrants arrived in Greece during the first seven months of this year.
