Nat'l Team Determined To Better Represent Kuwait In FIBA


(MENAFN- Arab Times) The national men's basketball team was resolved to do its utmost to better represent Kuwait in the FIBA Asia Championship, taking place in the Chinese city of Changsha from Sept 23 € Oct 3, the chief of Kuwaiti delegation to the event Khalil Taher has stated.

"Despite the difficulties, the team members are for an outstanding performance to show the world that their qualification for the continental championship is well-deserved," Taher, also vice-president of Kuwait Basketball Association, told KUNA upon arrival to Changsha.

"Our group includes Philippines, Hong Kong and Palestine, and I am sure Kuwait players are able to offer strong performance and snatch the required points for qualifying to the second round," he stressed.

He reiterated that the team will do all in power to elevate the flag of Kuwait high in the international event and to please fans of Kuwaiti basketball.

Taher lauded the warm welcome the Kuwaiti team received upon arrival to the hosting country, China.

"This warm reception reflects the deeply-rooted and strong relations between Kuwait and China," he said.

The 2015 FIBA Asia Championship for Men will be the 28th continental basketball championship in Asia.

The winner of the tournament qualifies for the Basketball tournament on the 2016 Summer Olympics, while the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placer will go under the FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament, as stated by FIBA and the IOC in qualification quota.
