German centre seeks to step up interaction with Qatari youth

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The German Information Centre for the Arab region aims to engage the Qatari youth in several of its activities, an official has said.
"We have an Arabic website for the centre and Qatari youth can interact with us," said Dr Carsten Wieland, head of German Information Centre in Cairo.
"We welcome Qatari writers or bloggers and will publish their suitable articles on our website. Published articles will receive appropriate honorarium," he said.
Wieland, who was on a visit to Qatar, told Gulf Times that the centre, meant for the entire Arab world, was set up exclusively for increased interaction with the Arab people and engage the Arab youth in several aspects about Germany.
"We want to have contact with the people, especially with the young people in the Arab world. They can ask us any question about German foreign policy and related matters."
"We have a very good and interactive website in Arabic that can help the Arab youth to express themselves. We encourage the Qatari youngsters to interact with us in any topic such as lifestyle or football. They can contact us on topics such as migrants issues. They can write to us in Arabic and if anyone sends any articles in other languages, we can translate them into Arabic."
Wieland felt the Qatari youth can make use of the educational opportunities in Germany. "We provide scholarships for graduate and even undergraduate programmes. The stipulations for admission and scholarship differ from country to country. All the details can be accessed from our website or they contact us directly and we will reply."
The official said there is a special section on migration on the website. "This can be very useful in the present situation where so many migrants are reaching Germany. This will also help people overcome many of the lies and rumours that are being spread about migrants issues."
Wieland said his country was keen to engage the Arab world and provide any assistance. He referred to the head of Mercedes Benz who had stated recently his plan to send recruiters to the refugee camps.
The official also said there will be efforts at cultural engagement with the Arab world.
