UAE- Pay the fines or leave your car warns Dubai Police

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)The general department of traffic of the Dubai Police will issue warnings and take strict action against cars that have accumulated traffic fines of over Dh5000 and in cases where registrations have expired. The cars will be impounded until the payment of fines.

Colonel Jamal Al Banai acting-director of the General Department of Traffic said according to the federal traffic laws the traffic police have the right to impound a car that has accumulated over Dh5000 in fines if the owner fails to pay up before the stipulated date despite an alert.

He added that car owners will not be excused on the grounds that they were not informed because it is their duty to update their personal information and addresses. He urged car owners to pay fines on time and also to renew their car registration and insurance before they expire.

Al Banai said the department receives complaints from motorists saying they were unaware of the fines imposed on them. He cautioned that people should check the SMS sent to them by the department. Also the traffic police avoids stopping vehicles to issue fines as this leads to traffic build-up. He added that most times people prefer not to be stopped on the road as this would lead to delays.

He said the traffic department stops drivers and issues tickets in their presence only when they drive recklessly endangering other people's lives.

Al Banai said that the traffic police also issues certificates stating that a motorist does not have any outstanding fines. This can be got by paying Dh50.
