U.S. Qualcomm to spend USD280m on chip program


(MENAFN) American semiconductor company Qualcomm Inc. intends to invest USD280 million on a computer chip production line together with two Chinese partners, based on recent released reports.

China Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund Co. (CICIIF), Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC), and Qualcomm announced the signing of a term sheet regarding investment in SJ Semiconductor Corp.

Eventually the ultimate goal for the involved firms is to expedite the establishment of China's first 12-inch bumping production line, which will advance China's general chip manufacturing abilities.
