UAE- Policewoman jailed fined on bribe charges in RAK


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)The Criminal Court of First Instance in Ras Al Khaimah has sentenced an Arab policewoman here to three months in jail for being found guilty of accepting bribe.

The accused also slapped with a fine of Dh2000 was convicted of attempting to smuggle a cell phone to an inmate woman in the RAK Punitive and Correctional Institutions Department of the emirate.

As per court records a female inmate lodged a complaint with the RAK police against the accused policewoman. She said the defendant asked her for a bribe to help her smuggle a mobile phone to another inmate.

The complainant inmate pretended to agree with the accused policewoman and informed the prison management about her. A trap was set and the defendant was apprehended red-handed with the bribe (amount unidentified).

The suspect was referred to the RAK Public Prosecution which charged the Arab policewoman with seeking and accepting bribe in violation of law. The case was then moved to the RAK Criminal Court which convicted the policewoman and ordered her to serve the jail term and pay the said fine.
