Egypt's army Chief of Staff heads military delegation in London visit

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) senior military delegation headed by the Egyptian army's Chief of Staff Mahmoud Hegazy is set to meet with senior British officials to discuss military cooperation and anti-terrorism efforts during an official visit to London.

The delegation left Tuesday, and the visit is expected to last for a few days, according to the armed forces' statement.

Hegazy's visit is the latest in a series of mutual visits between both states, amid developments in bilateral relations in various fields, and a British interest to coordinate with Egypt on regional issues.

In August, the British National Security Advisor and his deputy paid a visit to Cairo and met with Hegazy. They discussed issues of mutual interest, including the war on terrorism and recent developments in the Middle East.

There has been a marked increase in military cooperation between both states starting in 2015.

The UK had temporarily suspended military aid to Egypt as a punitive measure following the forced dispersals of the Rabaa Al-Adaweya and Nahda sit-ins in August 2013.

In June, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received an invitation from British Prime Minister David Cameron to visit London, but a date has yet to be set for the visit.
