Inflation in Dubai up 0.82% in August


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)The monthly consumer price index in Dubai rose 0.82 per cent in August compared to July according to a report released by the Dubai Statistics Centre on Wednesday.

The centre attributed the rise in inflation to increase in prices of the transport group by 10.4 per cent last month.

"Prices of furniture household appliances and repair rose 0.52 per cent in August. They constitute 3.34 per cent of the total index" the report said.

Housing and utility costs which account for almost 44 per cent of consumer expenses climbed 6.6 per cent from a year earlier and edged up 0.2 per cent from the previous month.

Food and beverage prices which account for 11 per cent of the basket fell 0.1 per cent year-on-year and were down 2.4 per cent month-on-month basis the report added.

According to the report housing water electricity gas and fuel showed a rise of 0.19 per cent. This group is the highest among the others in terms of the relative importance in the consumer basket. Despite this the commodities price index in the food and the non-alcoholic beverages slipped by 2.41 per cent with relative importance reaching 11.08 per cent.
